This course is designed to equip future fiber technicians with the skills and knowledge required to install, splice, test, and maintain Fiber to the Home (FTTH) and Fiber to the Building (FTTB) systems. Topics include digital communications systems, optical fibers, cables, splices, connectors, optical transmitters and receivers, installation techniques, component testing, and system testing.
Upon completion, students will be able to install, test, and troubleshoot components for completed systems. Students will also gain the knowledge and skills required for a professional career with organizations such as telecommunications service providers, Internet service providers, and contractors.
At the end of the course, students will sit for the FBA OpTIC Path™: Optical Telecom Installer Certification. This course is offered through a partnership with the Fiber Broadband Association.
Individuals successfully completing this course may be eligible for an internship or apprenticeship with a communications service provider or installation contractor.
